Continuing our decades’ old tradition of showcasing state-of-the-art T&M instruments at subsequent Elecrama events year-after-year, this year too, SCOPE presented advanced T&M and Protection solutions at Elecrama 2020.
Over the course of 5 days of the event, 700+ dignitaries from diverse verticals visited our booth to get an in-depth understanding of our wide range of T&M solutions. While we tried our best to answer as many questions as we could, many questions remained unanswered due to the paucity of time.
Here’s our humble attempt to answer the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that were posed to us at Elecrama 2020. Let’s begin!
Q1. What’s new from SCOPE this year?
A. This year, we have launched 5 new solutions:
1) PRIMA Series: Primary Injection Test Kits up to 3000A.
2) HPT Series: Hi-POT Test Equipments up to 50kV.
3) Advanced Protection Relays: In a strategic collaboration with Arcteq Ltd., Finland.
4) State-of-the-art Earthing Rejuvenation Solutions: In a strategic collaboration with Manav Energy, and
5) Robust Action.NET Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) solution.
Q2. Is Action.NET SCADA SCOPE’s own invention? Can it work with our existing SCADA system of a different brand?
A. Yes. Action.NET SCADA is our proprietary SCADA solution that seamlessly integrates with other SCADA systems through Open Platform Communications (OPC) protocol.
Q3. What communication protocols does SCOPE’s Action.NET SCADA support?
A. Our Action.NET SCADA solution cohesively supports a broad range of communication protocols like IEC 60870-5-101, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850, DNP-3, MODBUS, SNMP, and all OPC protocols.
Q4. How are your newly launched Arcteq Relays different from other Protection Relays in the market?
A. Our new range of advanced Protection Relays from Arcteq, Finland, easily outclass other Protection Relays due to their below 4 features:
1) Seamless and direct connectivity with the gateway due to integrated IEC-101/104 Slave protocols.
2) The Phasor Diagram of the voltage and current, IEC Curves of the overcurrent and Slope of the differential relay can be quickly viewed in local HMI leading to faster decision making.
3) All measurement parameters can be easily recorded in Relay or Drive for quick access, and
4) The Automatic Disturbance recording can be quickly downloaded through File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
Q5. Does Arcteq offer all types of Protection Relays?
A. Yes. Arcteq’s wide range of advanced Protection Relays can be broadly categorised in 4 types:
1) Flash Relays: AQ 1xx series
2) LV & MV Protection Relays: AQ 2xx series
3) HV Protection Relays: AQ25x series, and
4) EHV Protection Relays: AQ 3xx series.
Q6. What is an Arc Flash Relay?
A. Primarily designed for LV and MV switchgear and controlgear applications, our Arc Flash Relays instantly detect arc flashes and intuitively send a ‘trip’ signal to disrupt power.
Q7. What’s unique about the Earthing Solutions that you showcased at the event?
A. Our Earthing Enhancement solutions form an integral part of the comprehensive Earthing Solutions portfolio that we offer. These solutions are fully compliant with ‘IEEE80-2013 Guide for Safety in AC Substation Grounding (Clause 14.5/d)’ that prescribes permanent earthing.
Specially designed for high performance in soils with weak conductivity such as rocky soil, sandy soil, heterogeneous soil, etc., our Earth Enhancement solutions enable maintenance-free earthing for at least 24 years!
The solutions that we offer are eco-friendly, non-leaching, non-cracking, electrically & thermally conductive and robust enough to seamlessly perform even at sub-zero temperatures.
Q8. What’s the process for Earthing Rejuvenation?
A. For new earth pits, alternate layers of two variants of Earth Enhancement compounds should be used. First, 3 kgs of 14.5(d)-complied compound should be mixed with 3 litres of water and the slurry should be poured around the earthing conductor in a 3-meter deep earth pit. This should be followed by making a slurry of 5 kgs of 14.5(b)-complied compound with 5 litres of water. Both these steps should be repeated to make the 3rd and 4th layers of the earth pit. An HDPE Earth Inspection Chamber should then be fixed near the surface layer of the pit.
For rejuvenating existing earth pits, a slurry of 6 kgs of 14.5(b)-complied compound with 6 litres of water suffices to enhance the pit’s performance. For moderately resistive soils (with resistivity up to~50-to-100 ohm-m), the above combination will improve the pit performance by 30%-to-40%. For high resistive soils, bespoke combinations based on various simulation runs are recommended to achieve optimal resistance values.
Q9. What are the different variants of Primary Injection Kits? How many of your customers are supplied with such Kits?
A. Our ‘PRIMA’ series of advanced Primary Injection Kits come in 3 variants:
1) Prima 1: Injection capacity up to 1000A
2) Prima 2: Injection capacity up to 2000A, and
3) Prima 3: Injection capacity up to 1000A
Some of our marquee clients who actively use ‘PRIMA’ Injection Kits are Eastern Railways, South Eastern Railways, Kalpataru Power Transmission, Siemens, and L&T ECC.
Q10. What’s so unique about PRIMA?
A. The two unique features of PRIMA are:
1) Exclusivity – the ONLY instrument in the market today that provides Secondary Current Measurement, and
2) Lightweight – 60% lighter than any other solution available in the market today.
Q11. Do you have both AC & DC Hi-Pots? If yes, what is the maximum kV rating available for your solutions?
A. Yes. We offer both AC and DC Hi-Pots for testing with a maximum kV rating of 50kV.
Q12. What IoT Solutions do you offer? What are their possible applications in the power sector?
A. We offer an end-to-end IoT solution platform starting with the in-house hardware sensors that are installed on the electricity distribution network.
We also have an AWS-hosted cloud platform for data storage and retrieval as well as an SSL secured user-friendly dashboard to view our analytics-driven results.
Our IoT solutions were strategically designed and developed to suppress all the likely challenges faced in the Indian electricity distribution industry.
We offer data back-ups on the hardware sensors to ensure no data is lost in the regions where there are network issues. Further, our analytics provide key measurables like early detection of electricity pilferage, accurate demand forecasting or asset performance, maintenance alerts, etc.
Q13. What are the analytics-based solutions that you offer? Do you have any such solution already being used in India?
A. We provide analytics-focused solutions in 3 broad segments:
1) Energy Efficiency
2) Asset Management, and
3) Fault Management
Each segment can be offered as a stand-alone application and it is completely interoperable with third-party sensors and UI tools. We have successfully installed various pilot projects across India in different distribution utilities as well as distributed generation plants.
The above 13 were some of the common questions that were asked at this year’s Elecrama 2020 event. Please feel free to get in touch with us on marketing@scopetnm.com if you have any additional queries on our wide range of T&M and Protection solutions.
